Row West is more than a rowing studio. It’s a community-powered space built on inclusivity, connection, and healing.

Row West came to life after another local rowing studio closed its doors, leaving a real gap in our community. Rather than let that space disappear, our community stepped up. What began as a shared need quickly became a collective effort to build something meaningful, together.

We are community-owned and community-operated, fueled entirely by grassroots support, donations, and an overwhelming demand for a place to move, connect, and belong. In under a month, our community raised nearly $90,000, proving just how deeply this space is valued.

Our studio is home to 19 rowing machines (ergs) and offers dynamic, coach-led classes designed to motivate, uplift, and meet people where they are. Expect great music, thoughtful coaching, and an environment that’s welcoming whether it’s your first time on a rower or your hundredth.

At its core, Row West is a hub for movement and community, a space where physical and emotional well-being are prioritized, where showing up is enough, and where everyone belongs.

Who we are

our coaches

Susan

Coach Susan brings to Row West a rich background in both education and fitness. She began teaching special education in public schools the very same year she started leading group exercise classes. After 46 years in public education, she retired from the classroom but never from her passion for teaching—continuing to inspire others as an indoor rowing coach. When she’s not coaching, Susan is training for the World Indoor Rowing Championships. Over the past decade, she has earned ten Gold Medals and currently holds the World Record in the 500-meter sprint for lightweight women ages 70–74. Off the erg, Susan can be found outside, happily launching balls and frisbees for her energetic dog, Merlin.

Stacy M

Coach Stacy loves to help people be fit and capable at every age. She earned a certificate in Sports Medicine and Human Performance from the University of Washington, where she also rowed on the Husky varsity crew team. She has coached people from nine to ninety and emphasizes using an intelligent, science-based approach to fitness to stay active through every stage of life. Stacy loves blending sports with travel, having run marathons in London, Budapest and Stockholm, cycled in Austria, Czechia, France and Ireland, and completed Ironman triathlons in 7 different countries. Off the erg, Stacy enjoys taking her dog Brody anywhere he can swim.

Jocelyn

Coach Jocelyn’s athletic roots are in cross country and track. While training for the 2021 Seattle Half Marathon, she tried her first indoor rowing class and quickly connected with the similarities between running and erging. She began coaching in 2023 and enjoys creating a fun, motivating space where everyone feels included, regardless of fitness level or experience. Jocelyn is also a certified Health and Wellness Coach who is passionate about helping others make sustainable progress toward living the happy and healthy life they’ve always dreamed of. Off the erg, she is training for her next marathon, listening to podcasts, reading, or enjoying her rest day at home with her dog Tumelo, who came back to the U.S. with her after her Peace Corps service in Botswana.

Hannah

As a kid, Coach Hannah played nearly every sport under the sun (her favorite was volleyball), but she didn’t discover rowing until her first class in 2022. Looking for a challenge and wanting to “do something that scared her,” she took the leap into coaching in 2024 and hasn’t looked back. Hannah brings her upbeat energy and sense of humor to every class, and her goal is to make you smile at least once per class. Off the erg, you’ll find Hannah exploring the Pacific Northwest with her two dogs, Benny and Oliver, always in tow.

Meredith

Coach Meredith brings a lifelong love of rowing to Row West, beginning her journey on the water at age 14 in Philadelphia. After competing through high school, she transitioned into coaching, and when she moved to Seattle, she sought to reconnect with the sport. That search led her to indoor rowing, where she has been coaching since 2023. Beyond rowing, Meredith infuses her classes with her passion for music. A guitarist, devoted Swiftie, and lover of 2000s nostalgia, she curates upbeat, motivational playlists that keep the energy high and help rowers find their power on the erg. Off the erg, she’s a busy mom to three amazing girls and two dogs, Percival and Theodore, balancing family life with her dedication to coaching.

Stacy L

Coach Stacy is turning personal wellness success into professional expertise. Having maintained a significant weight loss for five years, she truly understands what it takes to build discipline and make healthy habits stick. In addition to being a rowing coach, Stacy is a Certified Personal Trainer and is currently studying to become a Certified Nutrition Coach. Stacy’s commitment to an active lifestyle extends to her home life, where she lives with two beloved dogs and one cherished cat. The daily routine of walking her dogs is a reliable, non-negotiable source of cardio. Off the erg, you can find Stacy and her dogs, Dax and Bixby, exploring West Seattle neighborhoods on foot.
